For the 1996 conference of the International Institute for Conservation (IIC), the National Museum of Denmark prepared an internet exhibition, at that time a pioneering initiative. It was published on the National Museum website but has since disappeared, through numerous changes of display fashion and a string of different content management systems. The durability of its plain html format is a good lesson for digital conservators. The exhibition is shown here in its original formatting from twenty years ago. It is also a fine lesson in the balance between fiasco and success in ingenious, mainly chemical efforts to preserve old stuff.
